Pilates are exercises for stability and posture, where breathing and concentration play a large role. Stretching is one of the main aspects. The various exercises are built up slowly and are linked to breathing. Concentration is the key. Pilates is all about coordination and stabilization of the pelvis bone, spine and shoulders. The principle of ‘no pain, no gain’ is not applicable to pilates as all the movements are very controlled and not meant to cause pain or strain.
Concentration is the connection between body and mind. You have to be consciences of your posture throughout the lesson. The voice of the teacher will guide you through this. The mirrors are not supposed to be used as aids, as this will not lead to a consciences of your posture.
