Action committee for KidsUnited – The Knickerbockers

We from The Knickerbockers would like to put a committee in the spotlight. It’s about our Action committee, consisting of Rutger Bijl, Iko Scheepsma, Fleur Boonstra, Daan Kiestra, Rosa van de Korft and Menthe Helmus, who dedicated themselves to the KidsUnited foundation last year. KidsUnited is a foundation that provides and supervises soccer training and matches for children with physical and mental disabilities. More information about KindsUnited and what exactly it stands for can be found here!

Last year, our Action Committee organized activities throughout the year to raise money for KindsUnited. The two best activities are described below.

Info TKBirthday run:

The TKBirthday run is organized on February 14, 2021 (the day before TKB’s birthday). This was a sponsor run, so everyone who participated could get sponsored for the number of kilometers they skated, ran or walked. The distances varied from walking 5 kilometers to running half a marathon. Everyone did their very best. In total, 1115 km were completed and 7758 euros were raised with this run!

Info day KidsUnited:

On June 19, 2021, the committee organized a training day for the children who play soccer at KidsUnited. The whole day there were several trainings organized by the committee who were assisted by other members of TKB. For both the children and the coaching staff this was a great day and it was really an experience for the children.

In total the Action committee raised more than 10.000 euro for KindsUnited! An exceptionally high amount and all that at a time when the Action Committee had to contend with various corona measures.

‘Long ride’ for the Lung Fund – G.S.S.V. Tjas

On September 5, 2020, a special event took place at Tjas. The news was almost exclusively about the coronavirus. The coronavirus made us understand at once how important healthy lungs are for your life. A group of six ambitious Tjassers were eager to get involved with corona patients. We could hardly skate and play sports together. One sport that could be practiced safely was cycling, something Tjassers also like to do. To provide some positive news in these troubled times, an ambitious plan was launched by six top cyclists: Jeike Juk, Rianne Hazelhoff, Jip van Elst, Hilbrand Wouters, Johnny Tran and Stijn Bouma. The goal was to cycle 500 kilometers within 48 hours to raise money for the Long Fund. And raise money they did! A total of €17759 was raised for corona patients, thanks to the efforts of fifteen pairs from different student skating associations and a team from Tandje Hoger. All pairs managed to complete the trip within 26 hours and 20 minutes. The fastest team even crossed the finish line within 19 hours and 48 minutes.

Luuk Molenaar – Tandje Hoger

We, from Tandje Hoger, found the achievement of Luuk Molenaar the most special. He cycled 793 kilometers in 52 hours and 31 minutes (moving time: 32 hours and 33 minutes) on July 2, 2021 during a bikepacking competition (traveling around by bike).
