Nominees top sports achievement of the year 2020-2021

Hendrik van der Eems – GSKV Released

In our association everyone goes like a rocket in terms of achievements! But we have one standout, and that is Hendrik van der Eems. He participated in a kite competition amateur division “Lords of Tram” in Gruissan, France. Unfortunately he did not win, but the whole competition was kind of cancelled because there was not enough time and wind. Competing in a competition within the kite world is quite exclusive, as the competitions are often against the best in the world. His instagram is @Hendrikvdeems, there you can take a look at what his achievements are :).

Susan Reinders – G.S.B.V. Tweeslag

Susan Reinders has performed best last year! She achieved the following results:

  • 5th place in the Eredivisie beachvolleybal
  • 9th and 17th place at NK beachvolleybal
  • 1st place Estivales de Volley (Saint-Cast le Guildo in France)

Arte Brueren & Vesna Veltrop – Drs. Vijfje

The indoor soccer season ’20/’21 had, like many other sports, soon ended due to corona. This meant that the Eredivisie, in which our first ladies team is active, also came to an early end. Matches and training were no longer possible in the Netherlands. Arte Brueren and Vesna Veltrop therefore decided halfway through the year to embark on a foreign adventure in Italy, both playing in the same league but for different clubs.

A teammate with the Dutch national team also played in Italy and that’s where the ball started rolling. What started as a bit of banter eventually ended in a real temporary transfer to Futsal Bitonto in Italy. Bitonto is a town in southern Italy with a futsal club playing in the Serie A2, this club was currently leader in this competition. Arte finally embarked on this adventure and enjoyed playing futsal in Italy. This adventure was finally crowned with the championship and winning the cup, this also achieved promotion to Serie A.

One month later, Vesna also started to play and after a lot of arranging, she also made the step to the Serie A2. Vesna also ended up in southern Italy in Molfetta and started to play for Femminile Molfetta. This club was currently second in the league and had the ambition to reach the play offs. Vesna also achieved good results with her team. After a series of good games, the final of the play offs was reached, where Vesna unfortunately did not crown her Italian adventure with promotion to Serie A.

Despite corona, both ladies were able to play half a year on a high level, were very important for their Italian teams and have achieved good results. Arte and Vesna have both embarked on the Italian adventure and have created something that we as Vijfje are very proud of.

Ilse Kolkman – G.S.R. ‘Aegir’

Ilse Kolkman became 2x Dutch Champion in Ladies 8 and Ladies 4 on June 26 and 27, 2021. Also a broadcast to the European Championships on April 9, 2021 in Varese in the Ladies 2. At the moment Ilse is affiliated with the rowing federation in Amsterdam, where she is now training for the Olympics in Paris!

Ties Talsma – A.G.S.R. Gyas

Ties Talsma started rowing in the 2017 season at Gyas’ freshman heavyweights. Since then, he has competed at the 2019 World Championships Under 23 in Sarasota, and that year’s Henley Royal Regatta. After missing a season in 2020, the first measuring moment in 2021 was the NK small numbers, where he finished second with Luuk Adema in the two sans. Together with the number 1 of that field, Ties and Luuk continued training in the four sans, in which Ties received SA status, and they were sent to the World Rowing Cup 3 in Sabaudia, where they achieved a great fourth place. Ties has stopped racing in the meantime, but can still regularly be found on the sidelines, and remains a sportsman at heart.
