Performance pressure, high expectations, perfectionism, social media, worries, tensions, financial pressure: all factors that can cause stress and can have a negative effect on our mental health. To some extent, stress and performance pressure are part of studying. A little pressure as a motivator often works great, but when you experience stress problems and you get stuck, it is a different story.
Mental fitness can be trained
One way to do that is by developing mindfulness: living with attention. Attention for what is happening right here right now. Because if your attention is in the present moment, you are no longer worrying about tomorrow or yesterday. Then it may just be that the problems you had suddenly appear in a different light.
The course Mindfullness is given by Anja Boers from Mindfullness op Maat. In 10 online trainingsessions of 1½ hours you will learn the ins and outs of Mindfulness: how it works, why it works and how to do it. In addition to the joint lessons, you practice 30 to 60 minutes a day with what you have learned. Besides a good internet connection and a webcam to film yourself, you won’t need anything special for it. No special environment, no special attributes or tools. During the live sessions you will get feedback and guidance. The final goal of the course is to make you more aware of yourself, something you can use afterwards in the next few years of studying!
