Power Yoga is a discipline that is derived from Ashtanga Yoga. In Power Yoga the accent lies on flexibility and strength.
The Power Yoga lesson has a fixed structure and a fixed series of exercises. These series consist of three sub sessions. A standing session, a sitting session and a closing session.
The lessons starts with Ujiayi (breathing), followed by a warm up known as Surya Namaskar A&B. After this you will move on to (a part of) the exercise series “first sessions Ashtanga”. The lesson will end with pranayama (breathing technique) and relaxation of the body.
Power Yoga is a powerful and dynamic form. Everybody continuously participates in the movements and positions in full concentration. The term Vinyasa (part of the Surya Namaskara) plays an important role in these exercises. For each movement there is one breath (in or out) which is synchronized with the different positions taken during the lesson. These synchronized movements and breathing creates the feeling of being in a flow, the Power Yoga flow.
The instructor can variate in the difficulty and intensity of the exercises.
