What is Join the Ride - Half Marathon Groningen?

Join the Ride is an ACLO program in which you work with a group of ACLO students under professional guidance towards a sporting event in Groningen or the surrounding area. The ACLO aims to connect students by working together towards a shared goal. You'll receive tailored support tailored to the event, including tips on training, nutrition, exercise, and self-awareness. With Join the Ride, you'll get more out of your ACLO membership and enjoy exercising together, not alone.

Groningen Half Marathon

The Join the Ride team will be training for the Groningen Half Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, May 31st.

What offers Join the Ride for the Groningen Half Marathon?

  1. A starting ticket for the Groningen Half Marathon;
  2. 5 guided training sessions from Training with the Top on Tuesdays from 15:30-16:30 PM;
  3. Training schedule from mid-February created by professionals;
  4. 2 workshops on nutrition and lifestyle from the minor lifestyle coaching (1 at the beginning and 1 towards the end of the programme);
  5. During the course you will be kept informed about 'practice' running competitions in the North (at your own expense);
  6. Additional training opportunities facilitated by Vitalis.

Important information

Cost:

The Join the Ride half marathon costs €35 per person. This includes preparation and the entry ticket to participate in the event. If you already have a half marathon entry ticket, you will be refunded.

Starting level:

Please note: To participate in Join the Ride, each participant must be able to run at least 5 kilometers independently.

How to register:

Registration opens on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 12:00 noon and runs until February 1, 2026. The drawing will take place on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 09:00 AM. If you are selected, it is important to confirm your participation. You can do this in the ACLO app under "Profile" and then "Draws." If you are selected, confirm your commitment by immediately purchasing your starting ticket via Join the Ride from the ACLO. You have until 09:00 AM on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Please note: If you do not confirm your participation, your registration will expire. Late registration opens on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 09:00 AM. Order date:

The mandatory training sessions will take place at the following times:

  • Tuesday February 10 from 15:30-16:30 PM --> Training from Training with the top;
  • Tuesday, February 17 from 15:30-16:30 PM --> Nutrition & lifestyle workshop;
  • Tuesday March 3 from 15:30-16:30 PM --> Training from Training with the top;
  • Tuesday March 24 from 15:30-16:30 PM --> Training from Training with the top;
  • Tuesday, April 14 from 15:30-16:30 PM --> Training from Training with the top;
  • Tuesday, May 12 from 15:30-16:30 PM --> Nutrition & lifestyle workshop;
  • Tuesday, May 19 from 15:30-16:30 PM --> Training by Training with the top.

There will also be additional training opportunities from the Student Sports Association GSAV Vitalis:

  • Tuesday, March 10 from 17:30 PM to 18:30 PM;
  • Tuesday, March 31 from 17:30 PM to 18:30 PM;
  • Tuesday, April 21 from 17:30 PM to 18:30 PM;
  • Tuesday, May 26th from 17:30 PM to 18:30 PM.

The meeting point for the training sessions will be at the athletics track in Stadspark.

The location for the two workshops is in the Meeting Room in the Sports Centre at the ACLO.

Fine policy:

The fine policy applies to mandatory training sessions/workshops. You are allowed to miss a maximum of one session. Missing more sessions will result in a €10 fine for each session. If you are unable to attend classes due to classes, work, or other commitments, you are not entitled to cancellation. Cancellations will not count towards your attendance. In case of injury, please contact your trainer and discuss what is best for you.
