Powerlifting

Powerlifting is the sport in which the goal is to move the heaviest possible weight on the three movements squat, bench press and deadlift. Most important in the sport are the lifter’s muscular strength and efficiency of the execution of the lifts, therefore the goal is certainly  not simply brute force. Next muscle growth and technical skill, sufficient nutrition and plenty of rest are important to Powerlifters, to develop en perform optimally.

Powercheck (krachtsport intro)

During the Powercheck your ability to train safely and unguided in the ACLO Powerstation is assessed. This check is necessary because the way of training for which the Powerstation is designed requires a certain degree of skill to train safely and free of injury.

The check will happen as follows: you go to the ACLO Station desk and get a temporary access card, you enter the Powerstation and, if you have not already, change into sportswear. Then, you check in with the supervisor of the Powerstation. The supervisor  will from then on tell you what to do. The supervisor will let you execute a squat, a bench press and a deadlift and will judge your skill in those movements critically. After that, the supervisor will let you know if you get your Power annotation or that you need to develop your skills some more.

Tips:

  • Make sure you know what the Squat, the Bench press and the Deadlift are in advance.
  • Make sure your shins are covered, specifically for the deadlift. This can be with long pants, a legging or simply long socks.
  • Do not wear pants that are too loose around the legs, this is a hindrance while performing the deadlift.
  • Do not wear shoes that have a dampening effect, like running shoes have for example. The harder and flatter the sole, the better. This is necessary because you need a stable stance for the three movements you will have to perform.

Powercourse (krachsport)

During the Powercourse you can improve your technique on the movements squat, bench press and deadlift with the goal of obtaining the Power annotation. Over the course of two weeks you will be working on this for two hours on tuesday afternoon under the guidance and coaching of an experience Powerlifter from Northside Barbell. At the end of the course the coach will re-evaluate your ability to train safely and independently at the Powerstation.
