Powerlifting

The main goal of powerlifting is to move the heaviest weight possible on the excercises squat, bench press and deadlift. The most important elements are the muscle strength of the lifter and how efficiently they perform the lift. Besides from muscle growth and technical skills, good nutrition and enough rest are key principles for a powerlifter, to be able to develop and perform well.

Powercheck intro

At the powercheck you need to show that you are capable of training safely by yourself at the Powerstation. This check is necessary because the Powerstation is equipped with mostly free weights, and this asks for a certain level of skill to be able to train safely and without risk of injury.

The check will go as follows: you will need to get a (temporary) ACLO card at the reception of the ACLO Station. Then you go to the supervisor at the Powerstation and they will guide you through the powercheck. The supervisor will let you perform a squat, a bench press and a deadlift and they will assess your skills. Afterwards the supervisor will tell you whether you passed the powercheck or whether you need to develop your skills more before training at the Powerstation individually. If you pass the powercheck the supervisor will contact the ACLO to make sure it’s being
registered.

Tips:

  • Make sure you know what the Squat, the Bench press and the Deadlift are in advance.
  • Make sure your shins are covered, specifically for the deadlift. This can be with long pants, a legging or simply long socks.
  • Do not wear pants that are too loose around the legs, this is a hindrance while performing the deadlift.
  • Do not wear shoes that have a dampening effect, like running shoes have for example. The harder and flatter the sole, the better. This is necessary because you need a stable stance for the three movements you will have to perform.

Powerlifting course

During the Powerlifting course you will learn to perform the squat, bench press and deadlift correctly. Through your participation in this course you can also pass your powercheck. You will be training for five weeks under guidance of an experienced powerlifter from Northisde Barbell. At the end of the course, they will assess if you can train safely at the Powerstation.
